LWA Melting Pot 2010

No doubt because of the cold weather, just a couple of degrees above zero, there were almost more sailors just attending the AGM than there were on the water for the racing, no shorties this year then! However 11 stalwarts gave it their best shot and stayed out for all three races, this included three juniors from Queen Mary Team 15.
Nick Kidd finally joined the 9.5 fleet with a new Tushingham XR Race sail and it certainly didn’t seem to slow him down much. James Moon, on a spanking new Starboard Phantom, had also decided to make it hot for the front of the fleet. Apart from Rob Kent, who led all the races for most of the way except when James Moon sneaked ahead in Race three, consistency was not the name of the game. The wind was coming over the clubhouse edge of the reservoir and swinging around the NW compass point at around 8 - 10 knots. This made the beats a bit of a lottery and this is borne out in the results when you see that a different person filled 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in every race.
Rob Kent carded three bullets to finish ahead of Chris Gibson, who started rather slowly but was able to discard his 5th place to finish one point ahead of Nick Kidd and James Moon, who both scored 6 points. The tie was broken in favour of Nick as he won the last race. Annette Kent started well with a 3rd but then slipped a little to take two 5ths.
Amongst the youngsters Aidan Liddy and Jason Harbour swapped places now and then, just keeping ahead of Izzy Mitchell. Great to see these young people taking part in an event alongside raceboards, and we look forward to welcoming them again.
The fleet was back on shore before 1:00pm and the AGM started at 1:30.
