LWA Summer Series - Bewl Valley Sat 13 October
Driving down to Bewl it seemed as though we were going to have to cancel the event, but surprisingly there was just about enough wind to race. We had a turnout of 18 in the main fleet and six juniors, not bad considering the forecast was for only a couple of knots!
The day turned out to be a battle between Richard Baker on his 10m+ Demon and Rob Kent on his 9.5 Lightning. it all depended on who found the puffs. Andy Lacy managed to get between them in Race 2, but after discards Richard and Rob had two firsts and one 2nd apiece, so the top spot went to Rob as the winner of the last race
Annette Kent, having decided at last to move up to 8.5m, gave a good account of herself to finish in 6th place overall. Youth Alex Trickle abandoned his RSX for an IMCO and a 9.4 Lightning to take 11th overall, with a best place of 8th, but expect more from this young man as he gets used to the new sail, with some decent wind he will fly. Junior Paul Ridley persisted bravely on his Formula board in the main fleet but alas the wind gods were not smiling favourably, maybe another day, eh Paul?
In the Juniors, Rupert Munro-Faire and Glen Sullivan battled it out with Charlie Wilson, who finished ahead of his fellow 6.8s, most of them using these for the first time. Glenn Sullivan did well on his 5.5 to finish 2nd overall. Andrew Robinson showed a flash of future promise by taking 3rd place in Race One.
