Apologies for this late report on Queen Mary, due to circumstances beyond our control! The forecast promised a nice Force 3 to 4 with gusts up to 30 knots, which however were few and far between and certainly nowhere near 30! So all those of you who stayed away in anticipation of being blown to shreds missed a rather nice day’s sailing, apart from the rain that is!
Race One was still fairly windy and James Moon set his marker for the day by beating Rob Kent to the line with a delighted Dave Cole in 3rd place., by far his best result of the day. James repeated this success in Race Two, again ahead of Rob but with Adie Rippington in third place this time.
Giles Wooltorton wasn’t having a good day, having started by ripping the cringle out of the foot of his 9.5 he was forced to limp round on a change down sail which was far too small for the conditions, then a rogue gust of wind flattened him in the rigging area as he was holding up his rig and the mastfoot went through some unfortunate Team 15 member’s sail - end of a bad day for poor Giles.
The wind had dropped more over lunch and Rob Kent started his fight back, pushing James down into second place ahead of Alan Jackson. However, it was all in vain as James came out on top in Race Four in front of Rob, with Andy Lacy in third place.
Further down the results Andrew Robinson did well to finish in 9th place, his best result being a 5th in Race One. It was good to see Harry Garstka persisting in his efforts toget to grips with raceboard, and our faithful Formula sailor, Steve Sugden, had some excellent moments but alas the wind was not consistent enough for him to make much of an impression on the results.
In the Juniors Galahad Wisbey only once slipped out of the top slot, which gave him overall victory. Congrats go to him and the other Juniors who persisted despite some tricky winds and a big course.
