Fishers’ Green always gives us a great welcome and the wind there is usually “challenging” but this time round it was seriously frustrating as well as challenging. Coming from the north west - ish most of the time meant it had to overcome the tree covered shoreline and an odd island or so, which made conditions round the windward mark more than dubious! We had a turnout of 13 Raceboards and three Technos, one or two familiar faces were absent but no doubt they’ll be back in harness very soon. At the sharp end of the fleet Rob Kent and Chris Gibson were having their usual battle royal, with occasional interference from James Moon and Andy Lacy. Rob, Chris and James finished 1.2.3 in the first two races. the second one of which suffered a catastrophic wind failure which caused the Race Officer to pull the plug after one lap. So we all went in for lunch in the hope that things could only get better for the afternoon’s races. After some shenanigans at the start involving Rob Kent et al., Chris Gibson shot into an unassailable lead, and although Rob tried his best it was a task too far, so he took second place to Andy Lacy’s third. In the final race, which Chris decided to miss and take care of his daughter who was also racing, Rob went back to his usual P1 followed by Andy and James. Annette Kent didn’t have quite as successful a day as is customary, getting stuck in some evil lulls and no doubt suffering from having 1 sq metre of sail less than the 9.5s against which she was competing. In the Junior Fleet Emily & Rebecca Kent and Millie Gibson did their very best on a small course in very frustrating circumstances. It would be great to see them all competing one day in a steady 10 knots when they have a decent chance to show how good they really are.
