LWA Icebreaker 2007 Event One

Although it was a beautifully sunny autumn day we had to hang around until midday before there was enough wind to race. We had a turnout of 27, four adult teams and two junior teams. Because of the light winds th Race Officer decided to go for a line start rather than our usual Icebreaker gate start.
Race One was won by Rob Kent of the "Silicon Sisters" (the Hampshire bunch) with Nick Kidd from the "Farmoor Flyers" in 2nd. These placings were reversed for Race Two, although Alan Jackson of the "LWA Select" team came third in both of them. By the end of Race Two the Flyers were in the lead and it looked as though the unstoppable Farmoor mchine was once again on its way.
As the wind was dying during Race Three the RO shortened the course after one lap and a beat and that was the end of racing for the day
.However in Race Three the "Silicon Sisters" had got their collective acts together and slotted home three sailors in the first five which gave them victory on the day by the margin of two points over home team Farmoor.
In the juniors the "Oxford Zoomers" beat the Queen Mary team into second place, but hidden in the results there were some very creditable performances, with Zoomers Tom Squires and Christopher Guest taking a ninth place apiece and Zoomer Sam Jenkins and Alex Trickle from QM a tenth.
Note that in the results below the junior teams counted their first 3 sailors and in the adult teams the lady's score is halved.
